Name: Maëlle Corcuff
Role on MAP team: Maëlle is a doctoral student doctoral student at Université Laval focusing on knowledge mobilization related to universal accessibility among municipal staff.
1) Where are you from and where/what do you study?
I’m a true Quebec City girl! Born and raised. As part of my doctoral studies, I’m investigating how to mobilize knowledge related to universal accessibility among municipal employees of the City of Quebec. I’m interested in collaborative and participatory research approaches and their impact on knowledge users and the implementation of innovations.
2) What motivates you to make the world more accessible?
What motivates me is simply my vision of the world… A more inclusive and equitable world, where everyone has the same rights and opportunities to thrive, regardless of their abilities. I dream of this world.
3) In a short and simple language, describe your research project or the project you are working on.
I work with the City of Quebec to co-create tools to facilitate the implementation of universal accessibility measures by municipal employees. We have co-created awareness video capsules to provide a common knowledge base to employees. The capsules were presented and implemented within test teams during participatory workshops. We are currently evaluating our implementation strategy and the effects of the capsules in order to then present them to all municipal employees as effectively as possible.
4) What is your hidden talent and greatest quality?
I can move my ears and dilate my nostrils at the same time, without moving the rest of my face haha (a bit gross, you might say!)
My greatest quality… I would say I am sensitive and warm-hearted.
5) What is the best way to make you smile?
I have an easy smile, pretty much everything has the potential to make me laugh (or cry)!
6) What do you like to do in your free time?
Going into nature, taking in big breaths of fresh air!
7) What place in the world do you dream of visiting?
Porto! Discovering the city of my favorite alcohol, why not
8) What’s the best book you’ve read or movie you’ve seen that inspired you?
There are too many, difficult to choose… Novels about the Second World War always inspire me because of the resilience and adaptability of the humans who lived through these traumatic events. Otherwise, ‘Ensemble, c’est tout’ by Anna Gavalda, so much sweetness… This book nourishes my romantic side every time I delve back into it
9) If you could have dinner with a known researcher/scientist/clinician/person who would it be and why?
I believe it would be with Thérèse Casgrain, a pioneer in women’s rights in Quebec, notably for the right to vote. I would like to thank her for the legacy she has left us. I would also like to ask her several questions about the levers of change she used or what were the biggest obstacles she encountered in her fight for gender equality. I would also like to know what impacts these actions and her activism had on her personal life and if she would do everything the same way again.
