In 2021, 16% of the world’s population lived with one or more disabilities. To promote their access to outdoor activities, the Association régionale de loisir pour personnes handicapées de la Capitale-Nationale (ARLPH03) has partnered with the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en réadaptation et intégration sociale (Cirris) of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale to create Tandem Actif. This website provides information and connects people with disabilities with trained volunteers to participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and rock climbing. The goal is to develop, test and expand the initiative throughout Quebec and even Canada, in line with the commitments of the Canadian Accessibility Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities with regard to recreational activities for people with disabilities.
