The Living Lab

The Adaptavie Living Lab is a collaborative initiative that connects community organizations, researchers, clinicians, and individuals with lived experience to improve access and quality of sports for people with disabilities. Research questions are co-created with partners, community organizations, and their members to ensure that projects directly benefit those they impact. The lab aims to enable effective solutions and share knowledge within the community.

The Living Lab has 3 main goals

  2. Training stakeholders to better support these individuals in social and/or sporting participation
  3. Raise awareness among the general population of the importance of inclusion in social and sporting participation

Since 2024, The team has been working on several projects to support these goals. These include initiatives to improve the quality of participation in adapted sports, addressing accessibility barriers of adapted sports equipment, and helping seniors with disabilities maintain an active lifestyle. Some projects look into specific sports and activities like the experiences of inclusive ultra-trail running team members and the benefits and experience of of para-climbers. The lab is also working on co-developing a peer-support service to help people with disabilities navigate public transit in Quebec City more easily.
